KEY-HOLE SURGICAL APPROACHES:
Endonasal transsphenoidal surgery:
removal of pituitary, skull base and brain tumors through a nostril.
The endonasal approach combines the high resolution of the surgical microscope with the endoscope for an expanded intracranial view allowing safer and more complete tumor removal. With this approach now performed in over 1000 patients by Dr. Kelly, there are no facial incisions and no use of post-operative nasal packing. This approach is used for removal of all Pituitary adenomas, Rathke's cleft cysts, and most craniopharyngiomas, as well as many suprasellar and petroclival meningiomas, clival chordomas, optic gliomas, sphenoid sinus carcinomas and epidermoid tumors.Case Examples and the approach
